Plane: B737-800.
Status: AAdvantage Gold.
Seat: Main Cabin Extra. Seat is pretty nice and offers more legroom than the standard Main Cabin seat but not as much as an Exit Row seat. It was also noticeably more comfortable than Main Cabin and Exit Row seats. This would be comparable to Delta Comfort+.
Check-in: The Priority check-in counter was closed. However, I was able to make it through Main Cabin check-in. The agent was very friendly and helpful. She noticed I was TSA-Precheck and directed me to the gate that offered it.
It is kind of funny though that DFW is American’s home base yet they didn’t have their counters fully staffed.
Security: Thanks to the kind agent at the check-in counter – I was able to go through TSA-Precheck and get through security quickly and with no issue.
Terminal D:
DFW is one of my favorite domestic airports and Terminal D is my favorite at DFW. It has pretty much everything you can ask for: well designed, plenty of dining and shopping options, all the major lounges, clean, and never seems to be crowded. We had plenty of time today to lounge hop and enjoy the grind of air travel.
American Express Centurion Lounge – The Centurion Lounge in DFW is a bit on the small side but the staff is always friendly and the food choices are always great. We had no issue finding a spot to sit and eat. Our son even took it upon himself to schedule a spa treatment while there (which he loved). It’s complimentary in case you were wondering.
Capital One Lounge – This is the family choice for favorite lounge at DFW. The staff is always incredibly friendly, our kids prefer the food options here – especially the Grab & Go area, it is spacious, clean, and offers a fun + relaxing atmosphere. Our son tried out the Relaxation/Energy Treatment and he highly recommends it. Capital One did a really nice job with this lounge.
Admirals Club – I don’t mind the Admirals Club lounges at all. I’ve never had an issue getting in or with overcrowding once inside. That being said – this is not the families most favorite lounge. It is a bit dated, the food options not up to par with the other lounges, and American is famous for up charging for pretty much anything that is substantial. Meals, drinks, Grab & Go food, etc. I prefer the layout of the Admirals Club in Terminal C as well.
Flight: I don’t know if I’m being picky or not, but the crew was again lackluster on this flight. They didn’t greet passengers when boarding the plane and weren’t exactly warm and friendly throughout the flight.
There was no recognition for status either. Come to think of it – Medallion members were recognized on every Delta flight I’ve been on recently. Even Silver Medallion which equates to AAdvantage Gold. Nada from American.
The flight itself was smooth and fast. We arrived early back at CVG.
There was one odd occurrence that I’ve never seen before. A passenger missed the FA collecting the drink/snack trash and instead of waiting for the next go around – he placed his empty Coke can in the aisle. Then, on two occasions, FA’s walked by and stepped right over the can. It wasn’t until the main FA attending the cabin came by for the last time that the passenger picked up the can and placed it in the trash bag.
