American Express ruins the Hilton Honors Business Card

Time to cancel.

American Express and Hilton hit a home run with the revamp of the Hilton Honors Business card. A home run to cancel the card that is.

An annual fee increase from $95 to $195 gets you 5X points earning on the first $100K in purchases per calendar year before it drops to 3X points after that.

That’s it. That. Is. It. Oh – for that privilege you can pay American Express $195.

Oops. Forgot the AMEX famous monthly statement credits. That’s right. This time it’s a QUARTERLY $60 statement credit for eligible Hilton purchases made with the card.

AND the card loses it’s Free Night Award after $15K and $60K spending thresholds, 10X Priority Pass lounge visits per year, and 6X points earning on select qualified business purchases. The latter which was apparently too complicated and tedious for business owners to deal with… yet are on pretty much every credit card out there. But they’re OK with the hassle of 4X quarterly $60 statement credits….. go figure.

Let’s be honest about these changes. They suck. What’s the point of putting spend on this card without the incentive of the Free Night Awards? There isn’t one.

I still like Hilton and will remain a Hilton loyalist for now. I’m just breaking up with the American Express Hilton Honors Business card. They don’t want my $15K+ spend anymore. Fine with me. I’ll find another credit card that does.

On a positive note – this has opened up an AMEX card slot for me to acquire the Delta Reserve card in the near future. Delta Silver Medallion here I come!!!

Full Disclosure – There are few other card “enhancements” that I could care less about. If interested in getting a detailed overview and learning more about the changes to the American Express Hilton Honors Business Card – check out the links below.
